CCM Axis F9 Intermediate Goalie Leg Pads – Special Edition
All new for 2024 is the CCM Axis F9 Goalie Leg Pads. Our first impression of the CCM F9 goalie leg pads are they resemble the True 20.2 leg pads. We are not saying these are a direct copy, but they have a very similar look and feel to the True 20.2 pads. This is a very good thing in our opinion as the 20.2 is a very popular option among butterfly style goalies. Goalies Plus will be offering special specs and colors on our Special Edition series:
The Goalies Plus Axis F9 goalie leg pads will come in six custom and unique colors. These pads will also have a single break in the outer roll. This break will help the pad flex at the bottom of the knee more than a no break pad. We felt this was important as it provides more wrap in the butterfly coverage and also adds more torsional flex (twisting flex) for easier movement around the crease. Our F9 Special Edition pads will also have a weave material on the inside edge. CCM did some testing on the sliding ability of different material They felt the regular jenpro material slid better. However, once we investigated their testing, we found that all of their testing took place on freshly cut ice. We are more concerned with second and third period ice that has been chewed up. CCM did concede that on used up ice, the weave did slide better.
CCM will continue to utilize the Dynamic Response System knee stack. This knee stack system integrates into the core of the pad which allows for more stability and control and therefore a greater performance benefit to the goalie. The DRS knee stack system also has great impact absorption ability which takes pressure off the goalies’ joints and back. The constant pounding a goalie takes from going up and down takes its toll on the body and the DRS helps with this issue.
The boot of the CCM F9 leg pads will have a very soft boot flex – again very popular in today’s pad market. This will allow for maximum foot and ankle mobility in various save recovery movements. The boot will also feature a shallow channel (basically no channel). This has become extremely popular with every brand over the past few years. It does change the sizing of the pads, so please size accordingly.
Also new for 2024 is a different inner sliding surface compared to previous generation Axis leg pads. The new design has an inset tapered zone to reduce surface friction when sliding. The new design also maintains a balanced and stable feel when the goalie is in the butterfly position. This essentially helps eliminate over or under rotation of the pads while in the various butterfly positions. These features will be combined with the popular DRS Pro Dynamic Response System that has been used on previous Axis pad generations. The DRS is a one-piece landing zone that is integrated into the core of the pad. This gives the goalie maximum control of the pad in all situations since the landing area and core act as one.
CCM will continue to use the Quick Motion Strapping System with a new feature for 2024. The strapping system now has a large range of adjustability compared to past models. Now a goalie can customize the strapping system to their particular needs.
CCM will use a hybrid lace system for a toe in 2024 versus a bungee toe tie system. The hybrid lace system is a skate lace system with built in slack to allow the goalie skate free range of motion without any restriction. The hybrid toe tie has a Velcro connection at the ends that allow for quick and easy connection while getting dressed. Here at Goalies Plus, we deal with a large amount of NHL pro return gear – most of which use a skate lace system versus a bungee system.

CCM Axis F9 Intermediate Goalie Catch Glove – Special Edition
Special Edition Skate Lace Pocket: Goalies Plus has replaced the traditional nylon cord on the sides of the pocket with skate lace. We feel that this gives the glove a softer pocket and therefore helps minimize pop outs out of the glove.
All new for 2024 is the CCM Axis F9 Intermediate Goalie Catch Glove. We will address the elephant in the room first: Has CCM fixed their glove issues? The answer to this is yes, the new Axis F9 glove does open and close like a glove supposed to. Right off the shelf this glove opens and closes easily. Past generations definitely had some issues (and some goalies did like the past generation gloves) but as a whole, the new CCM F9 Catch Glove is much more universally accepted then the past versions. We give CCM credit on the past generations; they tried some new and different things. Sometimes these changes work – sometimes they do not. However, nothing changes if you do not try and at least CCM had the guts to try.
CCM will continue to use a 591 break in the Axis F9 catch glove. The 591 is based off the 590 but redesigned for better opening and closing.
The Axis F9 Catch Glove will have a new Flexmotion design on the backhand of the glove. This effectively allows the glove to open and close properly. This also has a greater range of adjustability compared to past CCM gloves. The internal strapping on the back of the hand has also been redesigned to allow for more adjustability and comfort. This is the Cross Form Strap System.
The cuff and thumb of the new CCM Axis F9 catch glove will have a LITECORE core. This is an injected molded material that keeps its shape even after extreme pounding from shots to the cuff. It is important to know that non injection molded cuffs will flatten out over time from the abuse a glove takes. The Axis F9 catch glove will not have this issue.
The palm of the CCM F9 catch glove will utilize a layered foam protection in the palm area.
In the finger area, there will be an individual pocket/strap for the pinky and pointer finger. The middle finger and ring finger will come together in one pocket (essentially the middle and ring fingers will be sharing an area of the glove).

CCM Axis F9 Intermediate Goalie Blocker – Special Edition
All new for 2024 is the CCM Axis F9 Intermediate Goalie Blocker. For the first time in many years, CCM has redesigned their goalie blocker. The new CCM Axis F9 Blocker will feature the LITECORE in the blocking board. This material is incredibly lightweight and adds an explosive pop off the face of the blocker.
The palm of the CCM Axis F9 Blocker has also been redesigned to allow for more mobility when the goalie is stick handling. The palm has an ergonomic fit with reinforced protection. The pointer finger of the palm will have added HD protection in the Axis F9 blocker. The Axis F9 will use a reinforced Nash material in the palm area.
The sidewall of the CCM Axis F9 Blocker has been stiffened compared to past CCM blockers. This adds important blocking surface area when a goalie rolls their wrist during a save or skating movement.
The CCM Axis F9 Blocker has a centered position which gives the blocker its most balanced feel.
