CCM Axis F5 Junior Goalie Leg Pads – Special Edition
All new for 2024 is the CCM Axis F5 Junior Goalie Leg Pads. The Axis line has been extremely popular over the past several years for several reasons. One very important thing that CCM does is a width to height proportionate size. The smaller the pad, the narrower the pad is and the taller the pad the wider. This may seem trivial, but width is a huge issue for smaller goalies. If the pad is too wide, the goalies movement is greatly affected. A 26+1-inch Axis F5 is 8.5 inches wide, a 28+1-inch Axis F5 is 9 inches wide and a 30+1-inch Axis F5 is 9.5 inches wide.
Special Edition Single Break: Some customers may be confused by our Special Edition Single Break description. The Special Edition is our way of giving customers better spec options that are not normally available. The stock version of the Axis F5 has an inner break but not a break on the outer roll. In our opinion, we feel this stiffens the pad in an unbalanced way and takes away from the natural flex of the pad. With an inner break and not outer break, the inside half of the pad wants to flex but the outer half of the pad wants to stay stiff. This makes for an unbalanced vertical flex in our opinion. With an unbalanced vertical flex, the pad will not seal properly because the pad will now have a twisting effect on the lateral flex. By adding the break in the outer roll, the natural flex is restored, and butterfly coverage creates a better pad to ice seal. In generic terms, unless you have a super wide butterfly and do not need any flex, you will need the pad to flex and seal the five hole in the butterfly position. By adding this break, we feel it greatly helps with this in many ways.
The CCM Axis F5 pad utilizes the LiteCore Technology. The LiteCore is an extremely lightweight yet durable with a pre-curved shape.
Because of material differences between the Senior/Intermediate and the Junior pads, the Axis F5 junior pads will be entirely with the Speed Skin material. Speed Skin tends to work best on lighter goalies. As a goalies body weight goes up (particularly in adults), the Speed Skin becomes less effective. Speed Skin does ten to work very well with young goalies.
Especially with younger goalies, we feel that more flex helps junior goalies move better and perform better. A stiff pad on a small body is a recipe for disaster for a young goalie as they will lose mobility since the pad will not flex with their smaller bodies.
CCM will continue to utilize the Dynamic Response System knee stack. This knee stack system integrates into the core of the pad which allows for more stability and control and therefore a greater performance benefit to the goalie. The DRS knee stack system also has great impact absorption ability which takes pressure off the goalies’ joints and back. The constant pounding a goalie takes from going up and down takes its toll on the body and the DRS helps with this issue.
The boot of the CCM F5 junior leg pads will have a very soft boot flex – again very popular in today’s pad market. This will allow for maximum foot and ankle mobility in various save recovery movements. The boot will also feature a shallow channel (basically no channel). This has become extremely popular with every brand over the past few years. It does change the sizing of the pads, so please size accordingly.
Also new for 2024 is a different inner sliding surface compared to previous generation Axis leg pads. The new design has an inset tapered zone to reduce surface friction when sliding. The new design also maintains a balanced and stable feel when the goalie is in the butterfly position. This essentially helps eliminate over or under rotation of the pads while in the various butterfly positions. These features will be combined with the popular DRS Pro Dynamic Response System that has been used on previous Axis pad generations. The DRS is a one-piece landing zone that is integrated into the core of the pad. This gives the goalie maximum control of the pad in all situations since the landing area and core act as one.
CCM will continue to use the Quick Motion Strapping System with a new feature for 2024. The strapping system now has a large range of adjustability compared to past models. Now a goalie can customize the strapping system to their particular needs.
CCM will use a hybrid lace system for a toe in 2024 versus a bungee toe tie system. The hybrid lace system is a skate lace system with built in slack to allow the goalie skate free range of motion without any restriction. The hybrid toe tie has a Velcro connection at the ends that allow for quick and easy connection while getting dressed. Here at Goalies Plus, we deal with a large amount of NHL pro return gear – most of which use a skate lace system versus a bungee system.

CCM Axis F5 Junior Goalie Catch Glove – Special Edition
Special Edition Skate Lace Pocket: Goalies Plus has replaced the traditional nylon cord on the sides of the pocket with skate lace. We feel that this gives the glove a softer pocket and therefore helps minimize pop outs out of the glove.
All new for 2024 is the CCM Axis F5 Junior Goalie Catch Glove. We will address the elephant in the room first: Has CCM fixed their glove issues? The answer to this is yes, the new Axis F5 glove does open and close like a glove supposed to. Can a junior goalie open and close the new Axis F5 glove? Yes, a younger goalie can open and close the new Axis F5 glove. Right off the shelf this glove opens and closes easily. Past generations of CCM junior gloves were very stiff and hard to break in however this issue has been addressed and fixed.
CCM will continue to use a 591 break in the Axis F5 junior catch glove. The 591 is based off the 590 but redesigned for better opening and closing.
The Axis F5 Junior Catch Glove will have a new Flexmotion design on the backhand of the glove. This effectively allows the glove to open and close properly. This also has a greater range of adjustability compared to past CCM gloves. The internal strapping on the back of the hand has also been redesigned to allow for more adjustability and comfort. This is the Cross Form Strap System.
The cuff and thumb of the new CCM Axis F5 catch glove will have a LITECORE core but scaled down for a young goalie to use. This is an injected molded material that keeps its shape even after extreme pounding from shots to the cuff. It is important to know that non injection molded cuffs will flatten out over time from the abuse a glove takes.
In the finger area, there will be an individual pocket/strap for the pinky and pointer finger. The middle finger and ring finger will come together in one pocket (essentially the middle and ring fingers will be sharing an area of the glove).

All new for 2024 is the CCM Axis F5 Junior Goalie Blocker. For the first time in many years, CCM has redesigned their goalie blocker. The new CCM Axis F5 Blocker will feature the LITECORE in the blocking board. This material is incredibly lightweight and adds an explosive pop off the face of the blocker.
The palm of the CCM Axis F5 junior blocker has also been redesigned to allow for more mobility when the goalie is stick handling. The palm has an ergonomic fit with reinforced protection. The pointer finger of the palm will have added low density foam protection in the Axis F5 junior blocker. The Axis F5 will use a reinforced Nash material in the palm area.
The sidewall of the CCM Axis F5 junior blocker has been stiffened compared to past CCM blockers. This adds important blocking surface area when a goalie rolls their wrist during a save or skating movement.
The CCM Axis F5 junior blocker has a centered position which gives the blocker its most balanced feel.
