CCM Extreme Flex E6.5 Junior Goalie Leg Pads – Double Internal Break
Goalies Plus is back with our Special Edition version of the Extreme Flex E6.5 junior leg pads. In previous versions of the Extreme Flex series, we done a double break version. For 2023, we have kept with that theory but with a new twist. The CCM Extreme Flex E6.5 junior pads will have a single break on the vertical roll however there will be an internal double break. Because the CCM logo is located on the top of the vertical roll on the E6.5 junior pads, we could not have an external break at the top without eliminating the CCM logo (CCM was not fond of this idea). So, we choose to keep the top break internal so the look of the pad would not have to be altered. The break at the bottom of the knee will still be the traditional external break on the vertical (outer) roll. The double internal break still performs like our traditional double break of years past,
The Extreme Flex E6.5 Special Edition pad allows for increased flexibility and greater lateral flex (more independent flexibility of the pad – top, middle and bottom). By having more lateral flex in the pads, the goalie has greater control and more natural movements compared to a stiffer version. Another reason we went with the double break was the increase coverage in the butterfly technique. A hybrid goalie considers themselves a hybrid for many reasons: size, mobility, body limitations, etc. A very common characteristic of a hybrid goalie is a narrow to medium width butterfly technique. Since a hybrid goalie will still utilize the butterfly technique, it is important that the pad can do its part. By having the double break on the pads, even a narrow width goalie can still perform a butterfly technique with full closure. Without the additional break in the pad, there is a possibility that the hybrid goalie will leave a gap in their five hole because the pads will not wrap around enough and seal the five-hole area. We felt at Goalies Plus that it is much better to have the double break and not need it then to need the double break and not have it.
With junior goalie pads, we feel the double break is particularly necessary. As foams are shortened and made for smaller pads, they tend to get stiffer (just as cutting down a stick makes the stick flex stiffer). So, in the smaller sizes of pads, the pad stiffness can become extremely stiff – too stiff – which binds the goalie up and they cannot move. Smaller goalies need more flexibility, not less – so we feel that the double break especially helps younger goalies.
The Extreme Flex E6.5 junior pads have some new technology for 2023. Starting with the DRS Pro (Dynamic Response System), this is an integrated knee system that essentially connects the knee stack/landing area with the core of the pad. This allows for greater seal, control and feel of the pad. The pad no longer has the tendency to over or under rotate with the DRS system. This in turns provides a much more stable and consistent feel for goalie pad during play. The DRS also helps absorb impact from the constant up and down movements that a goalie has to perform. Hopefully the DRS will help with the hip, knee and back issues that have risen over the years in the goalie position.
Moving to the backside of the Extreme Flex E6.5 junior pads, you will notice the tight and deep fit that is obtained through the Quick Motion Strapping System 2 (QMSS2). The QMSS2 system keeps the pad tight to the goalie leg which provides better feel and performance for the hybrid style goalie. Compared to the previous QMSS, the QMSS2 help with quicker rotation and feel when the goalie transitions from the standing position to the butterfly techniques.
Another great feature of Extreme Flex E6.5 Junior leg pads is the proportionate size to width of the pads. The smaller the pad, the narrower they are. As the pad goes from 26+1 to 28+1 to 30+1, the width of the pad also adjusts to the height. This is very important as you will not see a small and wide junior CCM pad and vice versa, you will not see a tall narrow junior pad.

Bungee Toe Tie: The CCM Extreme Flex 6.5 junior goalie pad comes stock with an offset bungee toe tie system (junior option only). For years manufactures have used a skate lace to connect the toe of the pad to the toe of the skate. In recent years, after market bungee toe tie products have become very popular because they allow the toe of the pad to stretch from the toe of the skate with an elastic type effect. This stretching and recoiling improves the recovery process and creates more power pushes for the goalie. This toe system also takes pressure off the goalies ankles, knees and hips because it eliminates the quick stop and jerk process that skate lace has when it runs out of slack.
Boot Flex: Deep 90-Degree boot with a shallow channel which makes the pad taller and enhances pad rotation.
Stabilizer: Raised flat inner edge pad that helps maximize seal and overall stability.
Knee Cradle: Open design with removable outer knee wrap.
Boot Strap: A leather boot strap comes on the E6.5 junior leg pads (senior and intermediate’s do not come with boot straps)
CCM Extreme Flex E6.5 Junior Goalie Catch Glove – Special Edition
The CCM Extreme Flex E6.5 has an all-new design for 2023. Gone is the 600 break that previous Extreme Flex gloves have had. New is the 581 break on the Extreme Flex E6.5 catch glove. The 581 break is based of the 580 break which in the past few years has become a very popular choice among professional goalies. The 581 break has a much better feel and closure compared to the 600 break Extreme Flex gloves. Along with the new 581 break, Goalies Plus has changed the pocket of the E6.9 catch glove to a skate lace pocket on our Special Edition version which we feel makes the closure even better.
The E6.5 junior catch glove has been built with a softer, more kid friendly feel and closure.
Just like the Extreme Flex goalie pads, CCM will be using the new Litecore material in the E6.5 catch gloves thumb area. The Extreme Flex E6.5 with Litecore is 15% lighter then past generations of CCM catch gloves. The Litecore molded cuff thumb design will allow for great consistency over time as it will not flatten out like past generation thumb molds.
Also new is the addition of heat moldable foams to the palm of the CCM Extreme Flex E6.9 catch gloves which allows for easier break in and a more personized fit. On the backside of the catch glove, the strapping system has been redesigned to allow for greater adjustability to the back goalies hand and fingers. CCM will continue to use the FlexMotion Design which is a segmented HD molded foam in the back hand. So what does that mean? It means that the backside of the Extreme Flex E5.9 is flexible without losing protection. By making the Extreme Flex E6.5 flexible on the back of the hand combined with a wide and flexible wrist cuff, the E6.5 combines puck catching performance as well as control in stick handling and shooting techniques.
Speedskin: The outer material of the Extreme Flex E6.5 glove will use the Speedskin material. Although the Speedskin is most noticeable on the leg pads because it reduces friction between the pads and the ice, it is also a very durable material, By using the Speedskin on the E5.9 catch glove, it helps promote overall durability to the glove.
Palm:Â This area of the Extreme Flex E6.5 catch glove uses a layered felt that has been made softer for a more kid friendly glove
Pocket: Goalies Plus has changed the pocket lacing from a traditional cord string pocket to a skate lace pocket on the Special Edition Series. Skate lace pockets are very common on custom orders and now it will come standard on our E5.9 Special Edition catch gloves. The general opinion on skate lace pockets is that they are softer and therefore help reduce the amount of pop outs or drops while a goalie is in the catching technique.
Internal Strapping:Â A new cross foam strapping allows for a customized fit on the back of the goalie’s hand and the finger area.

CCM Extreme Flex E6.5 Junior Goalie Blocker – Special Edition
New for 2023 is the Extreme Flex E6.5 Junior Goalie Blocker. The Extreme Flex E6.5 is the lightest blocker CCM has ever made and the reason for that is a new inner core called Litecore. Litecore is not only lightweight, but also well balanced and produces very active rebounds off the face of the blocker. The face of the E6.9 blocker is binding less which gives this blocker the maximum surface coverage along with the best durability. The sidewall of the blocker has been segmented from the palm area which gives the goalie much better feel when holding the stick and stick handling. The Extreme Flex E6.9 senior blocker will continue to have a centered palm position (like previous Extreme Flex generations).
On the backside of the Extreme Flex E6.5 blocker, CCM will continue with the popular FlexMotion cuff which allows for maximum wrist mobility. Wrist mobility is extremely important and will allow the goalie to stay in complete control whether it is driving a rebound into the corner or making a saucer pass (maybe even shooting at the empty net). The finger protection of the Extreme Flex E6.5 blocker has full low density wrap around protection with the pointer finger being separated for extra finger flexibility. With the pointer finger in this position, it is exposed to pucks riding up the stick and injuring the finger. The thumb area has a high-density foam on the outside with a soft pillow separating the thumb from this outer area. We like this feature quite a bit, many blockers use a plastic molded outer thumb piece which makes the thumb flexibility to stiff. With the high-density foam outer, the goalie will still have the protection needed but with a much greater range of motion.
Speedskin: The outer material of the Extreme Flex E6.5 senior blocker will use the Speedskin material. Although the Speedskin is most noticeable on the leg pads because it reduces friction between the pads and the ice, it is also a very durable material, By using the Speedskin on the E6.9 blocker on the bottom edge, it has been shown to be very effective on the paddle down technique (just like the pads, it reduces friction between the blocker edge and the ice). An overall advantage is the Speedskin has been proven as a very durable material.
Blocker Face: Just like the leg pads, CCM is looking for an extremely active rebound off the face of the blocker. The new Litecore face provides a lightweight face with active rebounds.
Palm: CCM will use a reinforced Nash material in the palm of the blocker. Not only is this material very durable, it is also super comfortable.
Sidewall: The E6.5 blocker will come with a very stiff sidewall. With a soft sidewall, a shot can push right through the blocker and end up being a bad goal let in.
Finger Protection:Â The Extreme Flex E6. blocker will have foam wrap around finger protection.
Goalies Plus will be carrying seven custom colors:
- Black, Royal Blue & White
- Black & Red
- White, Black & Orange
- Black, Metallic Gold & White
