Now available at Goalies Plus is the True HZRDUS 7X4 Special Edition Goalie Leg Pads.  Based on the simple and iconic look that Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck & Nashville Predators Juuse Saros wear, Goalies Plus choose to use this classic look on our Special Edition Series. The True HZRDUS 7X4 is a butterfly/blocking style pad.  This is a very lightweight pad with an extra thinned out with the top that allows for easy overlap of the thigh rise when the goalie is in their ready position or performing skating techniques around the crease.

On the Goalies Plus Special Edition Series, we choose to add a single break on the outer vertical roll to add flex to this pad. With a single break design, the bottom of the knee up has a stiff build, but the break adds a flex point that is not there on the stock version.  We feel that most goalies prefer having this flex point to help break up the overall stiffness of this pad. Goalies with a medium to wide butterfly tend to really like this design as it maximizes ice seal and surface coverage.

Goalies Plus has added a weave inner edge to maximize slide ability.

On the backside of the pad, the 7X4 uses a nylon knee and leg channel.  This helps maximize pad rotation in and out of the various butterfly techniques.  The knee channel also has a wide design to accommodate various goalie knee guards.

The boot of the 7X4 has the 90-degree angle which again provides the flex in the boot that the hybrid goalie wants. The True HZRDUS 7X4 pads were designed to maximize the benefits of having a superior boot flex, resulting in enhanced mobility and control for all different game situations. Patent-pending Fast Rotation System (FRS) located at the calf keeps the leg connected to the pad. FRS makes them incredibly responsive without compromising rotation when dropping to the ice.

Bungee Toe Tie:  The True HZRDUS 7X4 goalie pads come stock with a bungee toe tie system. For years manufactures have used a skate lace to connect the toe of the pad to the toe of the skate.  In recent years, after market bungee toe tie products have become very popular because they allow the toe of the pad to stretch from the toe of the skate with an elastic type of effect.  This stretching and recoiling improves the recovery process and creates more power pushes for the goalie. This toe system also takes pressure off the goalie’s ankles, knees and hips because it eliminates the quick stop and jerk process that skate lace has when it runs out of slack.

The True HZRDUS 7X4 blocker uses high density foams in the blocker board which produces explosive rebounds, making it easier for goalies to clear rebounds away from the crease.  The face of the blocker is also binding less which gives the 7X4 the most surface area within the rules. The sidewall of the blocker has been segmented from the palm area which gives the goalie much better feel when holding the stick and stick handling.

On to the backside of the True HZRDUS 7X4 blocker. The cuff area on the 7X4 has been segmented to allow for maximum wrist mobility.  Wrist mobility is extremely important for stick handling and passing.  The finger protection of the HZRDUS 7X4 has full wrap around protection with the pointer finger being separated for extra finger flexibility.  The thumb area has a high-density foam on the outside with a soft pillow separating the thumb from this outer area.  We like this feature quite a bit, many blockers use a plastic molded outer thumb piece which makes the thumb flexibility to stiff.  With the high-density foam outer, the goalie will still have the protection needed but with a much greater range of motion.

One big change for 2024 is the palm of the blockers compared to last year’s 7X3 blocker palm.  The new HZRDUS 7X4 blocker is a new material that is a much higher quality.  The HZRDUS 7X4 will have better feel but more importantly, much better durability compared the Catalyst 7X3 blocker palm.
