True HZRDUS 7X4 Junior Goalie Leg Pads – Special Edition

Now available at Goalies Plus is the True HZRDUS 7X4 Special Edition Junior Goalie Leg Pads.  This is the very first Junior Goalie Leg Pad that True has come out with. Based on the simple and iconic look that Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck & Nashville Predators Juuse Saros wear, Goalies Plus choose to use this classic look on our Special Edition Series. The True HZRDUS 7X4 is a butterfly/blocking style pad.  This is a very lightweight pad with an extra thinned out with the top that allows for easy overlap of the thigh rise when the goalie is in their ready position or performing skating techniques around the crease.

On the Goalies Plus Special Edition Series, we choose to add a single break on the outer vertical roll to add flex to this pad. With a single break design, the break adds a flex point that is not there on the stock version.  The Junior HZRDUS 7X4 pads have a lower density foam design which gives the pad much more flexibility than the Senior & Intermediate.  Flex is extremely important for a young goalie compared to taller and older goalies.  The lower density foams and the single break gives the pad extra vertical and horizontal flex.  Because the goalie is small in size, stiff pads bind the goalie up and limit movement, with more flex; the goalie moves much more freely around the crease and in and out of save techniques.  A taller and older goalie can use stiffer pads because they are taller and stronger – therefore dispersing the stiffness in many ways that a young goalie cannot.

On the backside of the pad, the 7X4 uses a nylon knee and leg channel.  This helps maximize pad rotation in and out of the various butterfly techniques.  The knee channel also has a wide design to accommodate various goalie knee guards.

The boot of the 7X4 has the 90-degree angle which again provides the flex in the boot that the hybrid goalie wants. The True HZRDUS 7X4 pads were designed to maximize the benefits of having a superior boot flex, resulting in enhanced mobility and control for all different game situations. Patent-pending Fast Rotation System (FRS) located at the calf keeps the leg connected to the pad. FRS makes them incredibly responsive without compromising rotation when dropping to the ice.

Bungee Toe Tie:  The True HZRDUS 7X4 goalie pads come stock with a bungee toe tie system. For years manufactures have used a skate lace to connect the toe of the pad to the toe of the skate.  In recent years, after market bungee toe tie products have become very popular because they allow the toe of the pad to stretch from the toe of the skate with an elastic type of effect.  This stretching and recoiling improves the recovery process and creates more power pushes for the goalie. This toe system also takes pressure off the goalie’s ankles, knees and hips because it eliminates the quick stop and jerk process that skate lace has when it runs out of slack.

he True Junior Catch Glove has a very nice size proportion for a young goalie.  Compared to Vaughn or CCM junior catch gloves, it is a bit smaller.  We would say it is about the same size as a Bauer junior catch glove.  Some junior gloves are on the bigger size of junior, some are on the smaller side of junior.  We would say this is on the smaller side.

The HZRDUS 7X4 Catch Glove has the traditional True 590 break angle that is universal to a large variety of goalies.  The large single-t design help minimize pop-outs and makes it easy to open and close for a young goalie. A reinforced palm liner also provides plenty of protection against stingers.

The True HZRDUS 7X4 blocker produces explosive rebounds, making it easier for goalies to clear rebounds away from the crease.  The sidewall of the blocker has been segmented from the palm area which gives the goalie much better feel when holding the stick and stick handling.

The True Junior Blocker has a very nice size proportion for a young goalie.  Compared to a Vaughn or CCM junior blocker, it is a bit smaller.  We would say it is about the same size as a Bauer junior blocker.  Some junior blockers are on the bigger size of junior, some are on the smaller side of junior.  We would say this is on the smaller side.

On to the backside of the True HZRDUS 7X4 blocker. The cuff area on the 7X4 has been segmented to allow for maximum wrist mobility.  Wrist mobility is extremely important for stick handling and passing.  The finger protection of the HZRDUS 7X4 has full wrap around protection with the pointer finger being separated for extra finger flexibility.  The thumb area has a high-density foam on the outside with a soft pillow separating the thumb from this outer area.  We like this feature quite a bit, many blockers use a plastic molded outer thumb piece which makes the thumb flexibility to stiff.  With the high-density foam outer, the goalie will still have the protection needed but with a much greater range of motion.
