Vaughn VX1 Pro Carbon Senior Goalie Leg Pads
The entirely new design for the Vaughn VX1 has many changes from the Velocity pads of the past. The name Velocity has been changed to VX1 (roman numerals for Velocity 11) but moving forward the name Velocity will not be used. This is because Vaughn wants a new era to start with this series. This pad has been completely overhauled compared to past Velocity generations. We will give an overview of all of the major changes the customer will see in 2025.
Starting with the core of the VX1 pads, this core has been dramatically stiffened from the bottom of the knee to the top of the pad with a carbon fiber design that wraps around the top of the pad (versus just ending near the top of the pad). This greatly stiffens the horizontal flex of the pad. Vaughn did keep a pre-curved shape to the VX1 which allows for better butterfly coverage for goalies with narrower to medium width butterfly coverage. This is compared to a SLR4 pad with has an L-shape design which basically is straight from the bottom of the knee to the top of the pad (no pre-curve). The new VX1 core is also thinned out compared to past Velocity models. This makes the VX1 pad the lightest Vaughn pad ever but also has helps with functional techniques like pad overlap in the goalie’s stance. The thinned-out thigh rise helps the goalie in their stance and skating techniques as there is less bulk in this area to interfere with the goalie’s movements. The main emphasis on the new core – both in the shin area and the top of the pad is explosive rebounds. This pad is built to compete with other brands with puck explosion off the face of the pad when making a save.
Moving to the knee area, the VX1 pad will have an integrated knee stack. This means the knee stack is built into the core of the pad. By doing this, it creates a much more stable effect on how the pad plays. The pad is much less likely to over rotate or under rotate because of the integrated knee stack. Also, the knee cradle area has been widened to accommodate any type of knee pad. The knee stack strap now runs through the middle of the knee block (versus the outside of the block) which allows the goalie to get the elastic knee strap behind the knee much closer to the goalie’s knee – which than provides a more secure fit. This strap adjustable so a goalie can make it as tight or as loose as they prefer.
The knee block itself has also been redesign for performance and more importantly – comfort. Many companies are making the knee blocks very stiff. This has a negative effect on the knees, hips and back. Every time a goalie goes down, it is a jarring like blow on the goalie’s body as there is no cushion in these knee blocks. Vaughn has created a 3-layer knee block design. The two outer layers have a stiffer material, and the inner layer has a softer material. This helps cushion the blow that a goalie takes every time they drop into the butterfly technique. It may seem minor, but this can go a very long way to help goalies protect their bodies over a long season.
The calf cradle area of the VX1 goalie leg pads has a completely new calf wrap design. Today’s goalies want the pads to be secure to their legs more than in the past, The VX1 has a full wrap around inner calf wrap. This inner calf wrap is integrated by two professor straps – one at the top of the calf and one at the bottom of the calf. This inner calf wrap is completely adjustable to a goalie’s person preference. This new inner calf strapping system allows the pad to be worm snug on the goalie’s legs (if preferred) but does not compromise pad rotation in any way. The calf system is also designed with a thicker middle wrap to help distribute the goalie’s weight evenly along the lower leg while in the butterfly technique.
Vaughn has also changed the back material on the VX1 leg pads. The VX1 pads will have a hydrophobic leg channel. Often goalie pads will have nylon in the leg channel because it allows the pad to rotate better. The hydrophobic material is a much higher quality material versus nylon and also allows for easy rotation of the leg pads in and out of the butterfly techniques.
The Vaughn VX1 will continue to use the Quick Slide material on the inner edges and wear areas. The Quick Slide material is coated with powered glass which gives this material the best slide available in the goalie industry today. The Quick Slide material makes bad third period ice feel like a fresh clean sheet of ice.
On the outside of the VX1 goalie leg pads, Vaughn has tapered the vertical roll to eliminate weight and help rebound control predictability. On the side gusset of the pad, the VX1 has a binding less design. This is completely new for 2025 and gives the pad a very clean look on the side profile.
The Vaughn VX1 toe tie system is a bungee core that has Velcro attachment (this pad does not use the plastic clip attachment of past Vaughn pads).
On all Goalies Plus in stock VX1 pads, we have added sewn on Vaughn logos on the face of the pads versus a heat transfer logo.

Vaughn VX1 Pro Carbon Senior Goalie Catch Glove
The entirely new design for the Vaughn VX1 has many changes from the Velocity Catch Gloves of the past. The name Velocity has been changed to VX1 (roman numerals for Velocity 11) but moving forward the name Velocity will not be used. This is because Vaughn wants a new era to start with this series. This blocker has been overhauled compared to past Velocity generations. We will give an overview of all of the major changes the customer will see in 2025.
A big change on the new VX1 glove is the 50-degree break. The past generations of Velocity gloves were 60-degree breaks. With the recent popularity of the “580” break, the new VX1 50-degree break leans that way, although not to such an extreme as the 580. With the new VX1 Catch Glove 50-degree break, this includes an all-new molded one-piece palm. Customers will notice immediately that this molded palm and 50-degree break allows the glove to feel broken in right off the shelf. This new design also provides added protection to the palm area and help reduce palm stingers.
The T-Web of the VX1 catch glove has been widened by 1/2 inch versus past models. This allows for a bigger catch pocket while also allowing the glove to open wider.
The finger stalls of the VX1 catch glove have also been redesigned to allow for a more natural feel in the glove. All of the wrist straps of the VX1 have been moved closer to the palm area of the hand. This allows for a tighter fit with more wrist flexibility and mobility.
Vaughn has removed the two leather straps in the thumb area (most younger goalies had no idea why there was two leather straps sticking out the side of the thumb & pinky). Vaughn has kept these two straps in the pinky area. When you see these two leather straps sticking out the side of the pinky area. this is to adjust how wide or how narrow you want your pinky in the glove. Because of the new thumb molds, there is basically no movement available and therefore these straps where useless in the thumb area.
On all Goalies Plus in stock VX1 catch gloves, we have added sewn on Vaughn logos on the face of the glove versus a heat transfer logo.

Vaughn VX1 Pro Carbon Senior Goalie Blocker
The entirely new design for the Vaughn VX1 has many changes from the Velocity Blockers of the past.
The VX1 Pro Carbon blocker takes up the maximum (8in. X 15in.) surface area under NHL, NCAA, USA Hockey, Hockey Canada and IIHF rules.
New for the VX1 Blocker is a widened the cuff to allow for great wrist mobility. Also new is longer finger padding for extra protection.
The VX1 blocker has a flat side wall. The flat side wall provides more net coverage if a goalie turns their blocker hand over while making a save. The sidewall has also been glues to the foam on the VX1. This eliminates any slack in the materials that has been a complaint on past models.
The Pure Composite material is a carbon infused foam will continue to be used on the VX1 blocker which has a much more active rebound compared to other models. The VX1 Pro Carbon Blocker can be used by both Hybrid and Butterfly style goalies because of the nature of the build.
Vaughn has also added more cushion on the back of the hand on the VX1. This is more of a comfort feature, not necessary affects performance.
On all Goalies Plus in stock VX1 blockers, we have added sewn on Vaughn logos on the face of the blocker versus a heat transfer logo.
