Vaughn VX1 Chest Protector Style – Athletic Hybrid Style
New for 2025 is the new Vaughn VX Pro Carbon Chest & Arm Protector. Based off the Velocity V10 model, the new VX1 is a new generation of chest protectors for Vaughn. Some popular features on the VX1 Chest Protector are a wider shoulder floater design. Goalies like a very squared off design and the that was a major emphasis on the new VX1 model. The VX1 chest protector presents very square to the shooter. Also, the top of the VX1 Chest Protector shoulder floaters have a new shape that wraps around the top of the shoulders. This is built to minimize interference between the goalie’s mask and the shoulder floater when a goalie turns their head. The shoulder floaters also have a suspender strap that a goalie can snap their suspender in place, eliminating the suspender falling over the goalie’s arms during play.
The profile of the VX1 chest protector has also been redesigned. The Velocity V9 and V10 would tend to push out in the chest area. For taller goalies it wasn’t as much of an issue but for shorter and medium height goalies, it could create issues. The VX1 profile sits flush on the goalie’s body, specifically in the chest area. This does not affect how wide the goalie presents to the shooter.
In the arm area, the VX1 has increased protection in the arms, particularly in the upper arm area. The upper arm area is now wider and helps seal the arm pit area and hopefully preventing the goals that squeak through the upper arm area and the goalie’s body.
The neckline has been moved up on the VX1 Pro Carbon Chest & Arm Protector. There has been an issue of neckline sag on previous Vaughn Chest Protectors, so the VX1 has been designed to keep the neckline on top of the collar bone versus below the collar bone. Also new on the VX1 is a larger neck guard. This larger neck guard uses a soft inner material for added comfort.
Another new design feature for the VX1 is a floating style elbow cap protection. The floating style allows the arms to be more secure on the goalie’s arms while allowing for more mobility.
The arms of the VX1 are now connecting with a bungee cord attachment. This attachment allows for more mobility and also great range of sizing. In the past, Vaughn used a nylon attachment which worked well but the sizing had to be spot on. Now with this new attachment, sizing will have a greater range.
The VX1 Pro Carbon Chest & Arm protector is a domestically built chest protector, made on the same assembly line that makes the NHL chest protectors. Vaughn has a huge NHL following for chest protectors and when a customer buys a VX! Pro Carbon, they can have the peace of mind they are getting the same quality as the NHL goalies.
